Rosenfeld Gallery Gallery in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv Port · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Rosenfeld Gallery is one of the long-established commercial galleries within contemporary art in Tel Aviv, founded in 1952 and now operating from the Tel Aviv Port area. Its position is less that of a purely market-facing space than of a gallery that has helped articulate successive generations of Israeli contemporary art, moving between historically grounded figures and younger practices. The program is centred on artists working across painting, drawing, photography, video, installation, and conceptually driven image-making, with a roster and exhibition history that includes figures such as Roee Rosen, Zoya Cherkassky, Tal Shochat, Alona Rodeh, Boaz Noy, Liat Elbling, Izabella Volovnik, and Karam Natour.
Within the wider field of galleries in Tel Aviv, Rosenfeld occupies a structurally important role: it connects the city’s commercial gallery circuit with museum, biennial, and international exhibition contexts without losing its local specificity. Many of its artists circulate through Israeli institutions such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, MUZA, Herzliya Museum, and regional museums, while others have appeared in international contexts including the Jewish Museum Berlin, Kunstmuseum Luzern, LACMA, and the Gwangju Biennial. This gives the gallery a dual relevance: it remains rooted in the Israeli art scene, yet its program often addresses broader questions of memory, identity, language, material culture, and political imagination. In a city where contemporary art is shaped by both institutional density and independent initiative, Rosenfeld functions as a generational bridge between established artistic positions and a younger, more experimental field.
