Die Ecke Arte Contemporáneo Gallery in Santiago
Providencia · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Founded in 2003 by architect Paul Birke and inaugurating its exhibition program in 2005, Die Ecke Arte Contemporáneo is one of the most established commercial galleries dedicated to Chilean and Latin American contemporary art in Santiago. Based in the Providencia neighborhood, the gallery operates with a dual mandate: developing sustained careers for a select group of represented artists, and promoting the collection of contemporary work at both local and international levels. Its program gravitates toward conceptual and politically engaged practices, with a particular emphasis on video, installation, time-based media, and textile-based work. The gallery's curatorial orientation is reflected in the profile of its roster, which engages critically with themes of migration, memory, territory, and postcolonial history — concerns that resonate deeply within contemporary art in Santiago and across the broader Latin American scene.
Since opening a second location in Barcelona in 2010 — a deliberate move to provide European visibility to Latin American art — Die Ecke has developed a consistent international presence. Among its represented artists, Enrique Ramírez has exhibited at institutions such as the MACBA in Barcelona and the Louvre-Lens; Felipe Mujica has shown at the Industriemuseum in Ghent and alongside galleries in Basel and Nottingham; and Nicolás Rupcich has presented work at REITER Galleries in Berlin and the Noorderlicht Biennale in the Netherlands. The gallery also co-produces projects with institutional partners such as the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Universidad de Chile. Within the landscape of galleries in Santiago, Die Ecke occupies a distinctive position as a long-standing commercial gallery whose program consistently bridges local critical discourse and international institutional circuits.
