Perrotin Gallery in Paris
Marais · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Founded in Paris in 1990 by Emmanuel Perrotin, then aged twenty-one, Perrotin has grown from a modest initiative into one of the most internationally active commercial galleries operating today. Its main space, situated in a historic hôtel particulier on Rue de Turenne in the Marais — a neighborhood that concentrates much of the contemporary gallery activity in Paris — spans multiple interconnected buildings and reflects the scale the gallery has reached over three decades. The program is deliberately eclectic, avoiding allegiance to a single medium, movement, or generation. It encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, and conceptual practices, with a roster of approximately seventy represented artists and thirty collaborating artists drawn from twenty-six nationalities. Among the most prominent are Maurizio Cattelan, Takashi Murakami, Sophie Calle, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Xavier Veilhan, JR, and Daniel Arsham — figures whose careers the gallery has supported across many years and whose visibility reflects Perrotin's consistent appetite for artists working at the intersection of popular culture and formal ambition.
Beyond its Parisian base, the gallery maintains spaces in New York, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai, and participates in around twenty international art fairs annually, including Art Basel in its various editions and Frieze London and New York. This global structure positions Perrotin as a key connector between markets and scenes — from East Asia to North America — while remaining anchored in contemporary art in Paris as both its founding context and ongoing institutional reference. The gallery also runs an active editions program, with bookstores across its locations, adding a publishing and distribution dimension to its commercial and curatorial identity.
