Ardhi Gallery Gallery in Nairobi
Madaraka · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Ardhi Gallery is a Nairobi-based platform for contemporary Kenyan art, positioned between gallery, online marketplace, and artist-support infrastructure. Its public program presents painting, sculpture, mixed media, collage, photography, and more design-oriented collectable objects, with a focus on artists working through questions of identity, ecology, memory, resilience, and social experience. Rather than operating only as a conventional exhibition venue, it connects collectors, corporate clients, designers, and international buyers with original works by Kenyan and African artists. This gives the gallery a hybrid role within contemporary art in Nairobi, where commercial visibility, artist mentorship, and public-facing exhibitions often overlap.
Its program includes exhibitions and showcases such as Instruments of Becoming by Ryan “Duk,” Her Wellness, Her World, Dust to Form, XX Chromosome, Threads of Unity, Ubuntu: Humanity and Environment, and Esho-funi: Oneness of Life and the Environment. These projects suggest a curatorial direction attentive to figurative expression, material experimentation, environmental reflection, mentorship, and community narratives. The collaboration with Mukuru Collective, presented as part of the gallery’s early exhibition history, also points to an interest in amplifying voices from Nairobi’s wider social and creative landscape. Within the ecosystem of galleries in Nairobi, Ardhi occupies a relatively accessible and locally embedded position: it supports emerging and established artists, foregrounds contemporary Kenyan production, and extends its reach through online presentation, private consultation, art classes, and collector-oriented services.
