Galería Gato Gallery in Lima
Breña · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Founded in 2024 and located on Jirón Breña, near Plaza Bolognesi, Galería Gato operates from a district that sits outside the conventional circuit of galleries in Lima, historically clustered in Barranco and Miraflores. The gallery frames itself as a space of duality, friction and multiplicity, a self-description echoed in a tightly held roster of three artists—Alejandro Mego, Andrea Ferrero and Nicolás Lamas—whose practices span sculpture, installation and material-based research. Although recent in formation, the project has positioned itself as one of the more outward-looking platforms within contemporary art in Lima, bridging local and international voices through an exhibition program that does not depend on a strictly commercial logic.
The curatorial direction favours group constellations that bring together Peruvian artists with practitioners working from Europe, North America and Asia. Recent presentations have included Formas Aparte, featuring Wolfgang Tillmans, Nora Turato, Dora Budor and Nina Beier among others, and Superficies Habitadas, with Isabel Cordovil, Cristina Garrido and Gabriele Beveridge; the current exhibition, Vertigo (Disambiguation), gathers Theodoulos Polyviou, Ali Glover and Federica Francesconi under the curatorship of Kollektiv Collective. Alongside the main programme runs Espacio Abierto, a non-commercial project room conceived to host works more typically associated with institutional contexts than private galleries, oriented towards curators, collectors and the kind of conversation usually hosted by institutions in Lima. The combined structure has quickly made the address a point of reference for international dialogue from Peru.
