ROH Projects Gallery in Jakarta
Menteng · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Founded in 2014, ROH Projects has developed as a Jakarta gallery with a program shaped by Indonesian contemporary art while remaining attentive to wider regional and international circulation. From its permanent space on Jalan Surabaya in Menteng, a reconsidered colonial mid-century house, the gallery works less as a conventional white cube than as a flexible setting for exhibition-making, reflecting its earlier nomadic phase and its interest in changing spatial conditions. Its program brings together artists such as Aditya Novali, Bagus Pandega, Davy Linggar, Kei Imazu, Maria Taniguchi, Mella Jaarsma, Oototol, Stella Zhong, Syaiful Aulia Garibaldi, Thảo Nguyên Phan, and Tromarama, with practices spanning painting, installation, moving image, material research, conceptual approaches, and politically or ecologically inflected work.
Within contemporary art in Jakarta, the gallery occupies an important position between local artistic production and cross-border exchange, especially in a city where independent initiatives, commercial galleries, and institutions in Jakarta often intersect across informal networks. Its recent exhibitions and projects, including New Paintings, Keloid, Warna Hidup with Komunitas Salihara, and presentations connected to Bagus Pandega and IkkibawiKrrr, show a program attentive to both solo practices and broader thematic dialogues. Internationally, ROH Projects has built visibility through participation in Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Basel Paris, Art Jakarta, Art021 Shanghai, and Art Collaboration Kyoto, placing it among the galleries in Jakarta most actively connected to Southeast Asian and global contemporary art circuits.
