Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery Gallery in Athens
Kolonaki · Contemporary programme
Editorial Profile
Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery was established in 2013 at 3 Iraklitou Street in Kolonaki, the central Athens neighbourhood historically associated with the city's gallery and cultural infrastructure. Representing fifteen artists — both established and emerging — the gallery operates according to a structured annual cycle of around seven exhibitions, predominantly solo shows dedicated to the most recent work of represented artists, with the consistent addition of a dual show in which two gallery artists develop an original collaborative project, and a historically oriented exhibition curated by an art historian and focused on Greek artistic production from the 1950s to the 1970s. This three-part model gives the programme a measured rhythm that moves between the contemporary and the historical, reflecting an interest in situating current practice within longer critical genealogies rather than purely within present market logic.
The roster spans painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, and installation, with recurring figures including Eozen Agopian, Vasilis Zografos, Vassilis Gerodimos, Apostolos Karastergiou, Iannis Ganas, George Hadjimichalis, Rena Papaspyrou, and David Sampethai. The historical programme has encompassed Papaspyrou's early conceptual work from the 1970s, archival photography by Andreas Embiricos, and in 2024 the group exhibition Re(a)Duchamp, which engaged Duchamp's legacy as a live critical framework. The gallery participates in Art Athina, and in 2025 staged a joint salon with Berlin's Galerie Max Hetzler, signalling an orientation toward international dialogue that extends the programme beyond its immediate context. Within the broader ecology of galleries in Athens, the gallery occupies a coherent position, connecting Kolonaki's established art infrastructure to a programme consistently attentive to the evolving terms of contemporary art in Athens.
